Anonymous asked: Are you aware that a large part of Daken's fanbase despise the way Rick Remender writes him?
I’m unaware that Daken has a fanbase that can by any reasonable standard be called “large.”
WOW, such a smart thing to say. Not insulting at all to us readers. Not at all. I applaud you.
Of course you’ll never read this, or, if you will, probably you won’t answer. But.
We may be not a “large” fanbase, but yes, we long time readers - since the Way/Liu run - absolutely LOATHE and DESPISE the way Remender is writing Daken. You know why? Because that isn’t Daken at all. Remender took a sophisticate anti-villain, a 60+ years old grown man who had already, to an extent, worked past his issues with his father, and turned him into a twenty-something-year old rebel which hates his father for reasons unfathomable, whose speech pattern is completely different from the accultured one Way/Liu and Williams gave him. Remender couldn’t even bother to get the character’s history right. Nannies beating him when he was seven? When, at the time, he lived in a japanese household? Of course, all this means nothing if Marvel’s intention is, in truth, to rewrite his entire background/demeanor to turn him into another stale Wolverine carbon copy. Just know that the majority of us loved him as the complex character he was, as the sales of his 2010/2012 run can surely attest to, and not as what he is now. We, as the tiny fanbase you say we are, are quietly hoping that the Wolverine’s Legacy issue coming in November will do the character justice. We only hope to see again the character we love.
He didn’t even attempt to answer the question. The answer he gave would’ve made sense had the question been phrased: ‘Are you aware that Daken’s large fanbase despises the way Rick Remender writes him?’, but that… wasn’t what was asked. Nice to know how appreciated we are as consumers though, right?
These Q & A things are always just really eye rolly for me. Sarcastic answers are funny in moderation, but when they’re in response to nearly every question? Yawn. And I could forgive non-answers like this if they didn’t comprise about 90% of the replies given, but hey ho. Back to ignoring the people in charge at Marvel.
